2007 - The Year of Vonnegut

"Player Piano" is Vonnegut's first novel.

Kurt Vonnegut attended Cornell University and wrote for the Daily Sun - which he said was the most enjoyable part of college.

Kurt Vonnegut's mom committed suicide on Mother's Day.

Vonnegut was a POW, and was one of seven American POWs to survive the firebombing of Dresden.

"If you want to disappoint your parents but don't have the nerve to be gay, go into the arts"

After the war, Vonnegut attended the University of Chicago and wrote a thesis on the similarities between Cubist painting and Native American uprisings of the 1800s. The university rejected the thesis, but later gave him a degree after accepting his novel Cat's Cradle.

Vonnegut was interviewed by Jon Stewart.

Kurt Vonnegut has died.
